Jung Woo-young of SC Freiburg in the German Bundesliga started and contributed to the team’s advance to the quarterfinals of DFB Pokal.

Freiburg confirmed its advance to the quarterfinals by beating second-division team SV Zanthausen 2-0 in the round of 16 of the 2022-2023 DFB Pokal at BWT Stadion Amhardwald in Zanthausen, Germany, on the 7th.

Freiburg struggled to score until the end of the second half, but was able to earn the victory with consecutive goals shortly before the end of the game. In the 42nd minute of the second half, Philippe Lynnhardt finished Vincenzo Grypo’s cross with a header, and Nils Pettergen scored an additional goal in the second half’s extra time.

Jung Woo-young, who started as an attacking midfielder just behind front-line striker Michael Gregorich, went all over the ground but finished the game as he was replaced by Lucas Wheeler in the 14th minute of the second half without an attack point.

The quarterfinals of DFB Pokal will be held in April, and the draw for the match will be held on the 12th (Sun). Currently, Freiburg, Bayern Munich, Union Berlin, RB Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart have confirmed the quarterfinals. Two more teams will advance to the quarterfinals on the 9th (Thursday).

Last season, Freiburg finished second in the tournament after a penalty shoot-out match against Leipzig, the best performance in the club’s history.
